A computer crash necessitated reinstalling Windows 7. The Computer is wired to the ATT router. I have read for days, tried most everything I learned and still cannot connect, or even find out how to connect to the router. I see a PPPOE? connection, but none to a router. IPConfig failed ending with this message: An error occurred while renewing Local Interface Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
An error occurred while releasing Interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system cannot find the file specified.

You should not need a PPPoE connection on your PC to communicate with the router. The router should be authenticating your dsl connection.

Did you load the drivers for your lan card?
If you reinstalled windows using a normal widows install disk then you have no driver or if you do have a driver it is a windows generic one and not the specific one for your computer.

If you have an OEM computer (dell, hp, etc) then your drivers are on their website, if you have a custom built pc then the drivers are on a cd that came with the motherboard, or you can download them (from another computer obviously) from the motherboard makers website under support under your boards model number.

Thanks for the suggestion. But what driver do I need? I downloaded Driver Update, copied it onto a CD and ran it on the Windows 7 machine, but this didn't work cause it wants to get some info from the Internet. Is there a Driver Update that is self contained?

What is your computer or motherboard?

You need the specific driver for your specific piece of hardware.

It sounds like what you downloaded was a driver update utility that is not the driver but attempts to find the drivers for your hardware.
Some of these do an ok job, many are downright useless, and many more are actually viruses.

What you need to do is go to the website of your computer or motherboard OEM and download the specific driver from them.

Thanks for the comment.
I downloaded the LAN Drivers, and the system drivers for my motherboard. Installed them and now ipconfig / renew connected. Thanks so much for the help.
