windows 7 wont detect my hp storage works ultrium 160 tape drive

hi everyone

i have a hp storage works 160 tape drive i have it installed but windows wont detect it i can see it in device manager and also in acronis back up but windows does not detect it does any one know what the problem maybe or what i can try to resolve the problem

Sounds like you need a driver for it.

If you see it in DM what is not being detected? Do you see it in My Computer? You may have to go to Administrative Tools in Control Panel and then to Computer Management/Storage. There you should see the drive listed. Right click on it and activate it. You did not provide your Windows version but the above is good for recent versions.

i see it in device manager but cant see it in my computer that`s the problem i am running windows 7 64 bit. i don`t see it in Computer Management/Storage. so i cant activate it

In DM right click and select uninstall. Then reboot. Windows may find it? Have you tried a different USB port? In DM what section does it show in?

forget to mention i have it plugged into a scsi card as its a internal tape drive in device manager its listed in tape drives teh scsi is listed in storage controllers

Removable Storage Manager remains removed in win7, as it was in Vista, and therefore does not have tape support.
You'll have to rely on 3rd party tape softwae.
