I have a MSI k8n neo4 Platinum/SLI that i inherited from my brother. I am building a new system. Can I run Windows 7 on this or do I need to use an older OS?

Win7 should work on nearly every system at the moment with at least 1GB of RAM for 32bit and 2Gb for 64bit versions.

Go to MSI's web site, check for Win 7 drivers for your mobo model. You need to make sure the onboard video/audio/etc.. have drivers. Or be ready to re-install stuff if it does not. Although Win 7, especially after updates have run, is pretty good at finding hardware, may be worth a try even if MSI does not have specific Win 7 drivers listed.
