Windows 8.1 Activation Problem?

I just bought a new laptop from Newegg and Windows Activation popup keeps coming up. When I click on Activate Windows button, it just minimizes the screen and goes back to my desktop. I really don't care to activate but I read that I will be locked out of my computer if I don't activate. Anyone know why it keeps minimizing? or how to activate another way? thanks for any help

you have to activate or you will continue to see this screen.ultimately you will have your windows disabled if you dont activate.may i ask what your reservations are about activating windows?

I hate Microsoft, I don't trust Microsoft.

so.....you bought a laptop with windows on it???you could always try linux i suppose.worst comes to worst you can try phone activation.any time ive had to do it,it worked well with no problems.take the tinfoil hat off first tho.lol
