Hey Tech Experts,

I have a problem after usually typing in my account password for the PC: After I type the password and log in, the Desktop doesn't show, and by that I mean it's a completely blank black screen however the only thing I can see is the mouse pointer but other than that nothing, my guess is that when I was fooling around a Process or something got deleted in the End Task Menu, so its either EXTREMELY slow or there's some kind of function or driver missing.

I have tried various things: System Recovery (which doesn't necessarily work), Start up Repair (which doesn't change anything), Cleaning and re cleaning hardware such as RAM and CPU.

I'm right now using the PC in Safe Mode with Networking which actually does work so that was the only solution I found: To use Safe Mode however it is obviously slower.

P.S. I really need this PC to work since I use it for work that pays for my food, water, electricity etc. AND it's not mine.

Are there by any chance drivers missing? And if yes which ones.

If there are any questions at all for me I can answer them and any solutions I'll be extremely happy and grateful for :)

BTW here are the specs:
Intel Core i3-3220

1x4GB Corsair RAM

Asus Mobo and a 250 GB internal HDD

Solution
Okay I found a few things to try, I cannot guarantee them of course.

A temporary fix was to wait till it's black, then the Hit ctrl + alt+ del and end task explorer.exe in task manager, then run explorer.exe from task manager window, under FILE >RUN NEW TASK

If you are running Avast, uninstall it as there is some problem that can cause black screens with windows 8.

Another person said simply making himself a new user account and copying his stuff to that, then deleting the old one fixed it.

The 3rd thing I found was this video:

He enters the commands: scf /scannow in the cmd line window, then, "del "windows activation technologies"

then shutdown /r for reboot

Okay try this first...wait longer.

Sometimes after you monkey with things, windows has to re enumerate it's hardware and re figure some things. This can take longer than you'd think. I'll check back when I get up and see if you got this solved.

Ok so I tried waiting for 2 hours it still didn't work, I also tried system restore with 2 restore points in time the first one worked but didn't change anything and the second one probably would've fixed it but it didn't work (showing red error message).

Will try it. So I went to Processes in End Task and restarted Windows Explorer, waited about 20 minutes still doesn't change.

For extra info: There are 2 restore points.

1) 2/19/2015 3:20 AM.
2) 1/27/2015 1:56 AM.

The first one said System Restore completed successfully, but didn't change anything, the desktop still didn't show with the same problem.

The second one said System Restore did not complete successfully and also didn't change anything, however when I checked the files to be changed on the second restore point there were quite a few unlike the first one.

Also my first thought was to take the PC to local Tech Experts however they are quite far away and charge heavily (in other words a ripoff and I don't have that kind of money.)

I meant wait like 5 min, sorry. what is happening most likely is that windows isn't loading all it's junk correctly and waiting on something critical that is crashing or hanging during loading. It either is then skipping it or more likely just not finishing because it can't. I will try to find out what else you should try, just a minute.

Ok so this worked: "A temporary fix was to wait till it's black, then the Hit ctrl + alt+ del and end task explorer.exe in task manager, then run explorer.exe from task manager window, under FILE >RUN NEW TASK". (I felt really excited, PC working again.)

But it was rather temporary, after restarting the PC the blank black screen came again and had to restart explorer.exe again.

+ to abhisheksscorpion gave the same advice just didn't know how to use Win 8.1 like Win 7.
