Hello everyone; I am trying to figure out why I keep getting blue screen errors when gaming. The problem happens periodically. I can use my computer for a week with no problems, and then the blue screen will occur randomly.

Windows created a minidump when it went to the blue screen. Here are the contents of the minidump via BlueScreenView and the Windows Debugger 64:

BlueScreenView gives me this readout:

060114-5078-01.dmp 6/1/2014 5:13:44 PM DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x000000d1 00000000`00000001 00000000`00000002 00000000`00000001 ffffd000`96c13400 ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+153fa0 x64 ntoskrnl.exe+153fa0 C:\Windows\Minidump\060114-5078-01.dmp 4 15 9600 279,784 6/1/2014 5:14:10 PM

I have also used the Windows Debugger program, and it gives me this readout:

This installation of Windows 8.1 is new as I just installed an SSD in my computer about a month ago. The computer operates fine except for the occasional blue screen when I'm playing games on the computer. For system specifications, I am using Windows 8.1 on a 120 GB Kingston V300 SSD, a 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate HDD, an MSI R9 270 GPU, AMD A10 5800K CPU, 8 GB of Crucial 1866 MHz RAM, a Corsair 500 W PSU, and an ASRock motherboard. The problem occurs whether I am overclocking or not, and since I am encountering this issue, I am not overclocking at the moment. I do use MSI Afterburner to better control the fan as my GPU likes to keep the card at 80° C, but again, the blue screen has happened when I haven't manually controlled the GPU fan as well. The system is not overheating as I monitor the temperatures using HWMonitor and all the temperatures are normal.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I have run memtest86+ with 8 passes and no errors were found. Windows is also reporting no errors on my SSD and HDD when I scan them. I have tested the system with FurMark and prime95 and encountered no problems. I am using the latest graphics card drivers from AMD for my R9 270 and according to Windows Update, Windows is up to date. I have completed a Systems File Checker scan (sfc /scannow) and didn't encounter any problems. As far as chipset, BIOS, and motherboard drivers, I have the latest ones from my motherboard manufacturer's website. I have run a virus scan using Windows Defender and no threats were found. I'm pretty much at a loss as to what is causing this problem. Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thank you!

(I edited the post to hopefully make things more clear and to provide more information).

Thank you for your reply. My BIOS is up to date as are the GPU drivers. My CPU is an AMD A10 5800K, GPU is an AMD R9 270, I have 8 GB of RAM, a 120 GB SSD and a 500 GB HDD. For the power supply I have a 500W one from Corsair.

Oh, sorry about that. I have checked with my motherboard manufacturer's website (http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/FM2A75M-DGS/index.us.asp?cat=Download&os=Win8a64) and have all the latest drivers installed, although I don't see chipset drivers even listed on their website unless it is the AMD All in One driver. I let memtest86+ run over night and complete 8 passes and no errors were found. I have also run Furmark for an hour and my computer never crashed or overheated as well as prime95.

So it's a fairly recent graphics card? Did you have another OS before this without any problems?

I've experienced something similar, my graphics card had a production fault and would cause my PC to BSOD after half an hour to a few hours of gaming. I had to send the card back for warranty, got the same card back without any changes and with the problem still happening.

After I send it for a second time they swapped the card for a slightly better one, because my card was out of production.

But I had the problem from the start I bought it new.

My GPU is about two months old. I recently installed an SSD in my computer so I just did a clean install on it. I didn't get these blue screens on the old install, but I also didn't use the new GPU for long before I installed the SSD.

I also noticed after this BSOD that I was missing about 6 GB of space on my SSD. I was able to track it down to the page file where previously it was only using 2 GB and now it is using 8 GB. Is this normal?

Here's a little update. Apparently there are some ongoing issues with the current AMD Catalyst 14.4 drivers and blue screen problems. I am going to install the previous version of the drivers and see if that solves my problem. From what I can glean from AMD's website, this issue involves the AHCI driver. AMD has even gone as far as to remove the driver from their installation.

So it has been one week since I uninstalled the up-to-date 14.4 drivers and installed the older 13.12 drivers, and so far I haven't received a blue screen yet. I have stress tested the system and tried everything I could to get the system to blue screen, but it has been running like a dream. Time will tell, but this problem looks like it was caused by bad drivers from AMD. Hopefully they fix the issue soon!
