Windows 8.1 disaster

Hi there I just got Windows 8.1 and I thought it would be the much awaited improvement over Windows 8. Sadly, it has been a disaster. It started when I tried to open up Batman: Arkham Origins that I have on Steam. When I double-clicked on the icon nothing happened. I double-clicked again and it came up with an error and said that it could not open Batman as it was already running. When I opened Task Manager it said that Batman was running, even though there was no sign of it anywhere. No tab in the taskbar, no nothing. Then I went to open my mail in the Start menu. It came up with a blue screen and when I clicked it returned me to the Start menu. I slid my cursor over to the left to see the open tabs and it was there. When I clicked on it, the blue screen came up again. I tried this with the vast majority of the apps I have in the Start menu, and EVERY SINGLE TIME it came up with the blue screen, even with the Store, News and Skype. This is really bothering me and could someone please tell me what could possibly be happening? I know it must be Windows 8.1 as it has been happening ever since I upgraded to it. Please help!

have you dont all the updates for 8.1 I actually dont mind it over upgrading from 8.1 and actually is a little faster in games for me.

I would make sure you have no updates as well as uninstalling steam and reinstalling it and possible running ccleaner
