Hello All,
Recently, I am facing a strange problem. It started with IRQ conflict for DVD drive. The laptop after booting within few seconds would give IRQ conflict BSOD and reboot. Somehow I figured that if I keep DVD drive open, it works.

Since then, it strange thing that if the DVD drive is kept open D: drive appears in the explorer. But if I keep it closed when laptop boots, it doesn't show D: drive until I reboot with drive open.
This effectively rendered DVD drive useless. So even if I want to do some repair with Windows OS media, I can't.

Please suggest.

Hi,

Sorry for not coming back earlier.. :-(

Yes, it's there in the BIOS. The strange part of the story is, the drive shows up if the computer is booted with tray open. If it closed and windows started, it doesn't show the drive. And in Device Manager it shows "Hardware device not connected Error code 45 !
Just today, I learnt that if I hibernate and come back, the drive starts appearing back.
And when it appears, I can use the drive.. so the drive is in working condition.

DVD drive is MATASHITA-UJ8E2, and I have already tried updating driver.

Please help.
