I really need a new OS for my old PC, do I need any upgrades though to get my HP to Windows 8.1? it was made for Windows XP. I don't mind which I get but I want to move on from Windows XP. I've already upgraded the ram to 2GBs (2x1GB)
windows 7 will work better, barely any use for the new window 8 metro thing. maybe if you link it with cellphones or use touch screens.
Are you positive it will work? I thought it might not work because of graphics or something around that area? which edition should I go for if I do get windows 7?
I wouldn't want to run Window 7 or 8 on a 2GB ram. Windows 8 already takes up 1.8GB of your ram leaving very little for the rest. 4Gb minimum would be better. 8GB would be perfect.

Wrong! I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1525 which has only 2GB ram (2x1GB) and it works perfectly smooth on Windows 8 even though it was made for Windows Vista; it works even better on Windows 8 then it ever did on Windows Vista.

I didn't say it wouldn't work. Windows 8 uses less ram than window vista and 7. I just stating when you are running multiple programs, your 2GB is the limiting factor. my statement still stand: 4Gb minimum would be better. 8GB would be perfect.
