hello! i used a sabrent docking station to clone a smaller ibm ssd to a larger samsung 850 evo and it left me with a empty partition that needs to be merged into the 'new' c:. what is the easiest way to do this? i 'see' the extra 300gb, i can make it a new partition, give it a letter, but then, do i format it before trying to extend c:? when i click on c:, all i can do is shrink it. the extend partition choice is greyed out.

thanks!

hello. no, this is a different issue/machine, but i DID use the sabrent again. it did clone everything great (everything works), but i need to get that unused space to the c: partition.

So...you were cloning to or from from a failed drive.

And now everything works, except for the partitioning?
Please show us a screencap of the current Disk Management window situation.

The partition app can expand into unallocated space but not into an adjoining partition. Problem is I can't tell what you got. You describe the remainder as an empty partition and extra 300gb.
Let's have a snapshot of the Disk Management screen showing the original and the clone drives.

hello karen. you're absolutely right. just logged into the client's PC. this is the new cloned drive we're looking at:

as you can see, the sabrent clone feature created an extra e: drive with the new space. all i want to do is merge c: with e:

i do not know why this was partitioned as it was, regarding the other mystery partitions.

thanks!!

Since those 2 partitions are not right next to each other, you can't use Disk Management to merge them.
Disk Management can only merge tot he right, when they are next to each other.

Possibly a tool like Minitool Partition Wizard
https://www.partitionwizard.com/

Of course, any time you mess with partitions...you really need a good backup of the entire drive. Just in case things go south.
