Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help shed some light onto a problem I'm having.

I've just built a PC for the first time. I'm English, but live in Japan so I have a Japanese version of Windows 8.1 which I had to install in Japanese (there was no other option on the dropdown) but I set the other languages to English and the only language I have installed on the Region and Language setting is English.

All the menus and system messages are in Japanese. In fact, very little is in English. I still need to do a lot of setting up but I cannot read the OS menus. Does anyone know why the menus have not changed to the primary language? The system locale is also set to English.

Hi

One thing to try is to upgrade to Win 10 AND download the ISO of Win 10 English language version
use this ISO (DVD or USB) to upgrade not the version which automatically gets downloaded

Most people are going to upgrade to Win 10 if their hardware supports it

Once Win 10 is activated and if this fails to get rid of Japanese language menus etc you can do a clean install of Win 10 english. (eg take advanced options and format C: before installing Win 10)

The language pack is installed. I've installed English (United Kingdom) and English (United States), in fact they are the only language packs showing. The UK is set to primary.
