Windows 8.1 keeps freezing but not when playing games.

Hi my computer keeps randomly freezing. It freeze even when im barely doing anything but when I play games and it freeze everything does except the game, I can still play. It freezes for about 2-5 minutes and then it stops freezing. I am not good with computers please help, thank you.

I have an Asus CG8270
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
32 gb ram
intel core i7-3770

i had a similar problem....solved it by downloading a Windows 8.1 iso and clean installing 8.1.

okay I will try that. Ill have to reformat my computer first right?

yes you will have to....back up all you important data on the system drive and than start the process

I looked at the event viewer after my computer froze again and right at that time I got a warning
Event : 129
Source : iaStorAV

Could this be the problem? and how would I fix it?

that is intel rst driver....you can either uninstall the intel rapid storage completely, see if that works

or else you will have to clean install like i did

okay Ill try to uninstall it and see if it fix it if not ill clean install like you told me to do.
