Windows 8.1 not recognizing my 1 TB WD internal drive. Disk management not recognizing. Bios sees it.

So I recently built a gaming computer and installed windows 8.1 on a 250 GB SSD. The installation was flawless, however after installing on the SSD, windows 8.1 does not recognize the 1 TB WD hdd I installed afterwards. I can see it in the bios, but not in disk management. Is this a problem with the hdd itself? Or is there some way that I can force windows to recognize the 1 TB internal drive?

No, the drive is a clean slate.

Hi there Udra1,

Does the full capacity of the drive show up in BIOS. Also, is the drive set to AHCI? If not, you can do so.
Apart from that, the best way to see whether the problem is caused either by the HDD or your system is to try it on another computer.
Trying the drive on another SATA port with different cables will not hurt as well.

OK, so I've been able to install the hardware correctly to be seen in disk management. Now that I'm here, what steps can I take to partition the drive for use?

I had the exact same problem when doing my fresh install of Windows 8.1 on SSD and HDD for storage.

I restarted my computer, plugged and unplugged Sata cable, restarted some more and tried different Sata ports as well. Bios kept seeing it but disk management did not. All while in the background my windows updates where silently downloading. As soon as they were done, I installed all of them and when I did a final system restart, boom, disk management then shower my WD Blue 1TB drive. Everything worked from there on out!

Thanks for all the posts on this topic, got my head going and made me think and try everything I could before getting too frustrated.
