Hey all.,

This is my first PC build and do not know about OEM. Could anyone please tell me which version i need to install on a new build with a new hard drive? I'm hoping to install the same way as an upgrade?, or is that possible?

Do I need to go and download to usb from microsoft or can I buy from newegg or retail store? I want to have support so no OEM.

I have searched other threads and google search but have not been able to get an actual answer if I can buy the one at the store or if I need to get it from Microsoft or ??? I don't want to buy it and find out I need to already have an os to use it.

I hope someone can help me with this, and thank you for being patient with me, I'm new to all this.

Thnxalot

I know for sure that Amazon/Newegg sell the FULL Windows 8.1 "Retail" Version in disk form (I am almost positive you get Microsoft service with this, since you don't on OEM). There is no need to have a pre-existing operating system on the computer.

Here is a link to the software: (Both 32- and 64-bit disks are included in this)

Here is a video that shows you step-by-step how to install it:

Thank you. That's the most straight forward answer I have ever received.

And as long as I have the disks I can use them again and just buy another license ??
