Hey everyone,

I have a baffling problem that hopefully you can help shed some light on. I have an HP laptop that I am working on for a friend. (I'll post the specs down below) It had been running fine for a couple years and just recently after installing some windows updates has been giving us the 'black screen with cursor' problem. I have tried what the different threads here suggest to no avail. Safe mode does the exact same thing.

However, by running the 'sfc /scannow' command it will find some bad system files, repair them and safe mode will run normally and be stable. But every time I boot up Windows normally it will log in, work for about 30 seconds and log back out. At that point the User photo no longer appears and when you log in you are right back at the black screen.

I have run anti-virus scans, malwarebytes, and uninstalled all 3rd party applications. and I am stumped. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
