Windows 8.1 update

Hello everyone. Im having a problem with my girlfriends HP envy all in one, and windows 8.1 update. Yes I understand 8.1 is somewhat older now however ive updated from 8 to 8.1 three times and each time the update crashes my drive with the error file: \BCD error code 0xc0000034 also wouldnt let me refresh, boot from a recovery drive, go to a restore point. Now me or my girlfriend have no problem with wind8 however we want to avoid this update seeing as we have had to delete all files from this computer 3 times now. If you have any information on avoiding this, or possibly a solution for me if this should happen again and knowledge would be much appreciated.

Presume you're discussing the move from Windows 8 to 8.1, which does not suit every PC. Plain Windows 8 will be supported until 2018, and as you have to choose to install it via Microsoft Store, probably best to avoid it rather than endure having to re-install when it fails!
Out of curiosity, use Disk Manager to see if you have a System Reserved (350Mb) Partition, this is where your Boot data is stored if Windows is installed correctly...
