Windows 8.1 will not boot on SSD AHCI mode

As the title suggests i'm having a little issue causing major annoyance, I've just upgraded from 7 to 8.1 and my PC will not boot from SSD on AHCI mode, it just loops windows repair, i can get it to boot from SSD in IDE mode but bios does not remember my boot settings for some reason although it does remember my other settings like OC ect, tried resetting bios to default with no success, every time i boot the PC i get the message "boot manager is missing" because the bios will not remember the configuration, any ideas?

system specs:

CPU: AMD FX 6300
Mobo: Asrock 990 FX Extreme 3
RAM: 6GB Kingston hyper X 1600Mhz
Storage: 60GB OCZ Agility 2 SSD
500GB WD green
1TB WD green
GPU Radeon HD 7950 3GB
PSU: 550w OCZ 80+ bronze
OS: Windows 8.1

Disconnect the WD green Drive and leave disconnected until you've installed Windows and logged in successfully.
Turn Secure Boot on in the bios in the Windows 8 Options.
Ensure that the bios is only using UEFI and not UEFI and Bios mixed-mode.

When booting up to the DVD, ensure that you select a boot device to install from such as UEFI:brandname DVD/CD drive

Windows 8.1 is already installed and i'm writing this post from my win 8.1 installation, that part is fine. secure boot is on by default and so is UEFI. The issue is that when i shut down the PC and turn it back on it will immediately give me the "Boot manager is missing" error and i have to manually change the boot device to the SSD in IDE mode, it will not boot in AHCI mode all i get is a windows recovery loop. the PC boots fine from the SSD in IDE mode but again i have to manually set it to this for the PC to boot.

you can switch to ACHI mode if you didn't install Windows that way, unless you do a fix first.

also verify that Secure Boot is indeed enabled on your system:
To Check if Secure Boot is Enabled or Disabled in System Information


1. Press the + R keys to open the Run dialog, type msinfo32, and press Enter.

2. In the right pane of System Summary in System Information, see what the Secure Boot State value is. (see screenshot below)



Value Description
On PC supports Secure Boot and Secure Boot is enabled
Off PC supports Secure Boot and Secure Boot is disabled
Unsupported PC does not support Secure Boot or is a Legacy (BIOS) installed Windows

Problem solved, cheers Danny2000 for the link, i just had to edit the registry and turn on secure boot.
