I purchased a laptop second hand it's a hp envy 5-1129wm. It had stability issues which didn't bother me I normally do a full reinstall on any computer I get. The strange thing on this one is it keeps crashing and doesn't give me the standard error code so I can figure out the problem. I had to go into the maintenance area to get anything on the crash but I'm not finding anything on what little it is giving me. It was really unstable with the factory image restored got a little better after I removed the HP software and upgraded to 8.1 but it still crashes with an unknown error from time to time. Any help would be appreciated and here is what little details I'm getting in the maintenance logs.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xffffe0009822e028, 0x00000000bc800800, 0x0000000000010137). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 021815-44046-01.

the dmp file is about 581mb note or word pad don't want to open it not sure if there is another way to view it or what parts would aid in figuring this out.

- The cpu called the bugcheck because of a error in the CPU cache memory.
- your drivers look good, your BIOS looks ok, your not overclocking.
- your system was running 2 day and 10 hours so your power must have been stable.

I would be looking at a temporary overheating problem. Maybe vents blocked?
maybe a temporary power problem from a power strip? really hard to say. Maybe the beginnings of a power supply voltage regulation problem? maybe look http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-6-Sleekbook/5269347/model/5275677/drivers and install the hp coolsense software.

your dump file indicates:
bugcheck 0x124 WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

this was called by the CPU because of a CPU cache memory error with processor 3 cache bank 0
Error Type : Cache error
Operation : Data Read

your System Uptime: 2 days 10:52:46

machine info:
BIOS Version F.15
BIOS Release Date 01/22/2013
Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
Product Name HP ENVY Sleekbook 6 PC
Product 18DE
Version 77.47
Processor Version AMD A8-4555M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Processor Voltage 89h - 0.9V
External Clock 100MHz
Max Speed 1600MHz
Current Speed 1600MHz

Ah ok that narrows it down, do you have the name of a temp monitor program that saves the temps in a log as it reads them so I check the temps after a crash? Also could it be something like bad thermal grease or fan? Or is the processor likely need replacing?

-I think the processor should be ok but you can see about running a CPU test and see if you bugcheck.
-the only strange thing i saw in the memory dump was YCMMirage.exe, you might want to see if you use it or want it.
how to remove: http://www.ehow.com/how_5114101_remove-cyberlink-youcam.html

-there are a bunch of temp and voltage monitors but I have not used them in a long time so I can not recommend any.

i think the hp coolsense software might monitor temps and throttle the CPU for you but I have never run it. Just the fact that they have the software may indicate the system runs hot, You don't make software unless it solves a problem.

:update did fine with the prime 95 torture test ran it for 10 hours straight, let it sit for a while to cool down, but then after using utube for about 20 minutes same crash. It crashed there before while i was looking at videos to help repair my car so i figured I'd test it there too. Just can't seem to nail this thing down.

The coolsense software is running though it doesn't seem to open to anything, I did get rid of the cyberlink cam stuff and I'm running prime 95 now which seems to be doing ok to push the cpu. I'll let it go all nite and see how it does.
