Windows 8 and 3TD Hard drive

I have a Seagate 3TB internal drive that will not show up in disk management to format it but it shows in the device manager under disk drives. I am using windows 8 and recently tried a Seagate 2TB internal drive that formatted with no problems. I've been trying to solve this problem all week without gaining any ground. Any ideas on this problem will be much appreciated.

thanks for the response there are a couple things there I have not tried yet.
