I have two hard drives on my computer: An 248GB SSD (C:) for the OS and a 3TB HDD (A:) for everything else.
I've set A:'s Program Files folder as the default installation path from the registery, but once I install new applications, the desktop (and start menu) shortcuts are pointed to C: drive's Program Files, so I have to manually change it from the Properties.

How could I make it set the shorcuts to A: drive automatically?

(Also if I go to Start Menu -> All Apps, the applications are without a thumbnail and can't be found, cause it looks for it in the C: drive)

You don't want to use A: for the hard drive letter. This may be causing the issue. A and B have always been save for floppy drives.

While I don't know for sure if A and B are treated as special drive letters by Windows, try setting the other drive to D and see if the shortcuts work properly. Also make sure the registry change you did is valid for Windows 8 and does not require any further action to fix the shortcuts as well.

What about all the applications?
Doesn't changing drive letter make most of the apps disfunction?
