I'm having trouble getting a complete answer to this question but I was hoping someone would know.

I was planning to clean install Windows 8.1 because I feel that my gaming pc is starting to slow down, and it is really just time.

Also, I finally have decided to make the switch to windows 10, and since I am more a hardware person and not a software person at all, I have some questions.

I thought that if I upgraded to Windows 10 it would clean install Windows 10 so I wouldn't need to clean install Windows 8 before upgrading, but someone said I would still have to? What should I do to get the freshest install on my system?

I am also wondering about program compatibility. The only programs I expect to keep are games that are all of steam and World Of Tanks, that are both easy to move. Will there be any compatibility issues with those programs considering they were downloaded for a Windows 8?

Thanks for all the answers! Sorry for harping on the forums but I barely mess with OS's and none of my techy friends do either.

Yes, you can reinstall you Win 8.1, do all the updates to it, then Upgrade to Win 10.
Upgrade to Win 10, then if desired, do another full install of WIn 10 to get a full clean system.

Of course, all your stuff would be gone if you did that.

And all of your existing WIn 8.1 applications should be OK with Win 10.

Thanks for clearing that up for me! Also, will clean installing remove my GPU, Mobo, wireless router drivers as well?

Yes. You'll need to reinstall all those again, just like you did the very first time.
