Downloaded the consumer preview last night. Burnt ISO file to a DVD and tried to install it. I can get to the part where I enter the key. Then right after the part where it asks me which files i would like to keep, i get an error no matter which selection i try.

The error:
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

The system:
AMD-E-350 1.6GHz
4GB DDR3 1333 MHz
500 GB WD Black
USB DVD Drive

Troubleshooting:
Tried different options in the windows install. No luck. Made sure i downloaded 64 bit for 64 bit.

Also tried launching the ISO with Daemon Tools but I get the same error even sooner.

What I found is that this can happen when there are applications you have to uninstall for compatibility reasons or if there are automatic updates pending installation/reboot.

What I did to clear this up was to remove the C:\$WINDOWS~BT directory completely. You will have to show system and hidden files to see this directory, but once it is gone the Windows 8 installation will restart from scratch.

This worked for me -- hope it helps.
