I just installed Windows 8, coming from windows 7, and now my custom resolution of 1920x816 won't work anymore. All I get is a black screen.

My AMD HD6950 is connected to an Onkyo TX-NR818 and from there to a Sony HW50 using an HDMI cable. In Windows 7 a resolution of 1920x816 had black bars above and below. I've been using that resolution to fill my 2.35:1 projection screen.

I've tried different driver versions from 13.4 WHQL to the latest 13.8 BETA 2. Played with scaling options and turning GPU scaling on and off. I removed all overclocks and removed the TX-NR818 from the chain. Nothing works. 1920x1080 works fine, but as soon as I switch to 1920x816 I get a no input signal. Sound keeps playing though.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Shepherd

Solved it. When you make a custom resolution in Catalyst Control Center, the first thing you need to do is create the resolution and then tick the box 'maintain aspect ratio'. The other way around won't work. :S

Thanks for helping.

Yes, it's been working on windows 7 for almost a year now. In Windows 7 when I make a custom resolution of 1920x816 it is letter boxed in 1920x1080. That is 1920x816 with black bars above and below. It worked on my Panasonic plasma too.

I just noticed my image scaling options in Catalyst Control Center are greyed out. So I can't select maintain aspect ratio. Maybe that's the problem.

Yes, 1920x816 --> black bars added --> videocard ouputs 1920x1080.

Now I have to find out why I can't select 'maintain aspect ratio' in the gpu scaling menu. I can enable GPU scaling, but the rest is greyed out.
