Hello all so I am currently running windows 8.1 on my PC it worked out fine until about a couple weeks ago. It will randomly just freeze when im playing games or browsing. if you let it sit for a little bit it will come back eventually. When it freezes I can move my mouse around but am not able to click anything. I have done everything from running malwarebytes to deleting almost everything. but still randomly freezes.

Also when i go to clean install it it says its missing some files and i need to insert the disc but I downloaded it from Microsoft so I don't have a disk. any help on that would be greatly appreciated

I just got off the phone with windows support...SMH..... the guy did some test but eventually came to the conclusion that it was "viruses" witch all he did was download hitman and ran it (literally took 30 seconds for a full scan. came up with 43 tracking cookies. Then trys to sell me it for 19.99 a month. also told me malwarebytes was a virus haha

Solution
Try updating your graphics driver. A corrupted driver can cause tons of problems.
Also, restore your system to a time you know it worked. Back up all your files and go to the first restore point.
You will loose all programs and settings, but it may fix your problem.
Do not use those silly virus programs. Get MS Security Essentials. 100% free and by Microsoft.
It works very well for me. You may need to buy a copy of Windows 8 and start over.
Try downgrading your system to Windows 8.0. Restoring your system should do that.
Good luck! :)

Solution
Many possible causes of freezing.

1. Check out your OS
First try System File Checker
Winkey plus 'X'
Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc /scannow then Enter

It finds and fixes errors in Windows, but doesn't always report them. Run it and see if the fault disappears after re-booting your system
If corrupt files are found that can’t be fixed, try

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Re-run SFC

To view CBS Log

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Search C drive for sfcdetails.txt or navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and scroll down.

2. Check System for overheating

D'load and run Speccy
http://download.cnet.com/Speccy/3000-2094_4-75181811.html
Check temperature after running a game for a while.
(Click Green tab next to Temperature for real time graph)

3. Check RAM.

If you have more than one stick, try running on one at a time. Or run Memtest 86.
Best run the bootable version, as it checks out the areas of RAM normally occupied by Windows. http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
Then create bootable CD or USB Flash

4. Check HDD for mechanical errors

or

Bootable diagnostics

Update Drivers, especially GPU
If Desktop, exchange GPU if possible.

6. Generally check for poor connectivity.
