Windows 8 on HP Pavilion dv6700?

Just wanted to ask if Windows 8 worked fine (without lags, errors, bugs, or any other issues) on HP Pavilion dv6700.

Right now I have Windows Vista and during or after the login screen it just freezes up and now I'm using it on Safe Mode.

So I was curious if the same thing would happen after installing Windows 8.

My system information is:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU - 2.00Ghz
Memory: 2046 MB RAM
DirectX version: DirectX 11
Current OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
System Model: HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC

I've also heard that Windows 8 requires:

1.Physical Address Extension (PAE)
2. NX processor bit (NX)
3. Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2)

How do I know that my PC includes all that? I've ran the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant but that does not tell me about PAE, NX and SSE2.

As far as processor compatibility goes, you should be fine to install Windows 8. You may want to check your specific model of CPU (which will be reported in the System Properties window) against Intel’s ARK site to be sure. The 2.00GHz model of Intel Core 2 Duo which I found listed as the model included in dv6700 notebooks is the T5750, for which Intel ARK reports full compatibility with 64 bit architecture (and thus PAE) and Execute Disable Bit (NX). All Core family products to date support SSE2. The processor does not support Intel VT-x Virtualization Technology and by extension SLAT, which would prohibit use of client Hyper-V, the virtualization technology found in Windows 8 Professional and Enterprise.

For other drivers, the thing to do is what you have already done, run the Upgrade Assistant. You can also search for the specific model of your notebook for more details on the specific devices to your notebook. dv6700 is the product name, the model number will be similar, but include more specific numbers which identify the specific configuration of your system. HP provides this image as a reference, the number you will want to search for is located at number 1.

Okay, the model is HP Pavilion dv6735ee. I'm just going to install Windows 8 (NOT Pro or Enterprise) so I think that would be okay if Intel VT-x Virtualization Technology isn't supported? The CPU model is T7250.

Things can get a little tricky from this point. HP only supports Windows Vista for this notebook and provides only drivers for Windows Vista for the cv6735ee. Some components of the notebook are supported in Windows 7 by the manufacturer of the component, such as the Intel 965 Express graphics chipset, but not in Windows 8. Intel does mention, however, that the drivers for 965 Express graphics may be available through Microsoft Update in their FAQ for graphics chipset compatibility with Windows 8. Other components have had drivers updated for Windows 8, such as the Intel chipset drivers and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology, but may not properly support the combination of the older ICH8R chipset with Windows 8. Achieving a stable configuration at this point is a bit trial and error.

The above drivers should at least allow you to achieve a stable core operating system. For the remaining devices, many may just work out of the box, but some may not. For those that do not, you can attempt to install the Windows Vista drivers, both natively and in compatibility mode if necessary.

Other device support FAQ and/or drivers:
Intel Wireless Adapters (Your notebook specifications indicate an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, drivers for Windows 8 for this device are available from Intel here)
Realtek RTL8101 Ethernet Adapter
NVIDIA Graphics Adapters (It looks as though your notebook has an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS adapter despite having both Intel and NVIDIA drivers available on the support site)

As for processor support and Hyper-V, you look to be set with compatibility with Windows 8. SLAT is only supported on Intel processors from the Core i3/i5/i7 and newer generations, as such Hyper-V will not be compatible with your system. SLAT is not required for Windows 8 installations of any edition without Hyper-V installed.
