Windows 8 on Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset - audio does not work

Hi, I have a PC with Windows 8 Professional Edition on it, having hardware

Chipset : Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset
Memory Controller : 82GM965
I/O Controller : Intel(R) 82801GBM I/O controller hub (ICH7M)
Integrated Graphics : Intel(R) 965GM Graphics And Memory Controller Hub(GMCH)

For some reason my Sound Drivers do not work but all other things work properly.

It shows that a default driver from Microsoft (Version 6.2.9200.16653) is installed.

Please hep me resolve the issue.

what motherboard are you using? the chipset might have nothing to do with the audio. most motherboards have a separate audio chipset.

check under Other Devices in the Device Manager and see if there is hardware that is missing drivers.

judging by the age of the chipset, you could try the Realtek audio drivers for AC97.

After my Intel original mother board malfunctioned, I have recently purchased a Intel chip set base Chinese motherboard since i had 4 GB DDR2 RAM already and a Core 2 Due 2.93 processor.

Now in my device drivers, its only showing one option for Audio driver, as i have mentioned above.

I am not able to find a suitable driver that would solve my issue.

Also, I am not able to find "Realtek audio drivers for AC97" that supports Windows 8 ?

there should be a model number on the motherboard.

If the system is using Realtek AC97 audio, there are no drivers for it for Windows 8.

If you can, go to device manager and right click on the audio, go to Properties and then the Details Tab. In the dropdown, select Hardware IDs and copy and paste the first line that starts with PCI\VEN here and I will see what audio it is.

Thanks a lot Emerald, this driver did work and it seems my PC audio is working. Its a start to a work week, so will check in details on next Saturday and revery back if I face any further issues.
