Windows 8 Problems

About 1 day ago I was going about on my pc doing my own thing when suddenly my desktop picture disappeared and the desktop went black. Now, programmes either don't open or take about 10 or 5 minutes to open and even simple things such as right clicking on stuff sometimes take a while. I checked the task manager to see if something was taking up a bunch of ram or something(although I don't think that would have helped) And I don't know about my CPU temps although before it happened I'm pretty sure the temps were low. I know you'd probably think 'just an old pc' or 'the parts probably suck' but it was running pretty fine before and opened programmes pretty fast. I don't know about any other issues or if there are, but right now I think it's either something to do with the operating system(windows 8) or if one of the parts are busted. Thanks.

Try to do a disk scan for errors, defrag HDD, then scan for virus (malware byte) and use ccleaner to clean out junk files.
