Hello, I have windows 10 currently installed on my laptop. It has been more than 30 days and I want to downgrade back to my pre-installed windows 8. I used the windows 8 setup from Microsoft and as I entered my key it told me that "This key doesn't work with this edition of Windows. Try a different key." the key I am entering is my MSDM key I have searched the Internet for days to no avail, please help in any way you can.
Thanks

not that I know out side of a new key .. this is why I never recommend any upgrade of a os -- something goes wrong you may find your out 2 os's and buying a 3ed to get things back as you really want

now here they say you just do a fresh install of your old OS and the key should work ??

''One obvious way to get around this is to use your Windows 7 (or 8) disc and activation key. It's not exactly a simple process since you'll need to back up everything and then wipe your hard disk and start from scratch. After installing Windows, you'd need to install drivers for your hardware, then all your software, and finally your documents and all the other files and settings you backed up. And, of course, hundreds of Windows updates...

Damn that sucks, you sure there's no sort of work arounds?

anyway that's not how I recall seeing that ,but what do I know for sure with how Microsoft handles all this cause there desperate to got you on 10 and that's all ??

thing is when you reinstall the say windows 8 fresh and use the key will Microsoft reject it cause in there computer that checks all this out now got your 8 key tied to 10 and kicks it out as not valid 8 key anymore ??

don't know Microsoft if funny on there 10 and will do anything to screw you over to it, it seems

hate to think of the backlash if this is true ??

I made a response earlier but deleted it because it was stupid. 🙁

I'll try again.

You said you want to go back to Windows 8.
Have you considered 8.1 ?

You can get an iso for 8.1 with the Media Creation Tool.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

I just download an iso to my desktop & extract it to a 64 GB usb & click on the setup.exe file in it to start the installing process.

I installed Windows 10 like this.
It didn't ask for a key.
It read either the OEM or Installed key from the BIOS.
It activated automatically.
It might be because I use a Microsoft account.

My computer came with 8.
When I upgraded to 8.1 I got it from the Store download.
I don't remember if it automatically activated or I activated it by phone.

Trying this could work or waste a few hours of your time.
Worth trying before spending maybe $200. :)

This is flat out wrong, stop stating it.

The key will work just fine, the issue is the install medium. You need to make sure you download the right version for your specific key. If you have N or K versions you may need to install with those.

You need to choose the method you want from the prompts---

Choose the correct system---

@basroil

there the thing they state one time

''You can absolutely downgrade from Windows 10 back to the previous version of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. You can even totally wipe your machine and reinstall your old version of Windows with the old key. But, and this is a very big but, you can only do so within the first 30 days.

then they say

If you rollback after the 30 days you aren’t as much rolling back anymore as you are just releasing your Windows 10 license and freeing up your old key to be used for your older version of Windows. You’ll still need to totally reinstall Windows and use your old key to get your old installation back up and running.

and I did point that out above in the 2ed post smart guy

thing is Microsoft is not clear on any of it and blowing smoke to help keep you on 10 once they get there grip on you with it . there desperate cause no one wants the crapware

enjoy

''As things stand, it’s not clear if you can fall back to an old OS installation by doing a new, from-scratch reinstall using your original CD key or not. It’s also not clear just how much hardware you can change without triggering the need to contact Microsoft’s customer service to manually reactivate the operating system, Microsoft only states that a change must be “meaningful.”

best policy is never do a upgrade and overwrite you good old working well OS's

that's all there is to it buy a new drive and a retail copy and be done with it
