windows 8 stuck at configuring windows features after 8.1 update failure

i recently got a new pc (asus m51bc) when i tried to update it to 8.1 is stuck at 82% for like an hour so i restarted out of panic then it was restoring the system it got to the point when it says configuring windows features do not turn of you computer and stuck at 100% for 30 minutes until now any ideas?

seems like it restored the system after 15 more minutes but it showed me an windows 8.1 update error message

any idea why the update was stuck at %82 ?
