Windows 8 to Windows 10, via Windows 8.1 (try saying that three times fast)

Hello
I want to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8, but I need to upgrade my laptop to windows 8.1. Last time I did that, I got infinite BSODs and had to send my laptop away to get fixed. Should I risk upgrading to windows 8.1?

If you want the free upgrade win10 from win8, you have to upgrade to win8.1 first. If the laptop has problem, you have to fix it first.
1) DIY, try the win8 refresh feature. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc then upgrade to win8.1 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/update-from-windows-8-tutorial
2) Like you said send it out if you can't fix it by yourself.
