Recently purchased an Asus Notebook model Q501LA. It is a touchscreen laptop.
Both my wife and I hate Windows 8 mainly because we have virtually no use for almost all the tiles. It seems many are simply a means for Microsoft to get you to their content. Mail, IE, Maps, store, Bing are all for programs which we have a preference to other programs.
When speaking to a store rep he advised me that almost all touch screen notebooks are not backward compatible to windows 7 even if you don't want to use the touch capability.
I also read a post on Tom's that indicated this notebook I bought is tied to Windows 8 in the bios.
So my question to those that may know is the info I have received correct and I am stuck with adapting and living with Win 8 on this notebook?
Is it possible to for instance make the mail tile open my Yahoo mail and change the IE tile to a Firefox app?
I am hopeful that Windows 8.1 might make it more palatable but doubt it will solve all our gripes.
