Windows 8 upgrade

I have windows 7 on my old hdd computer build. I bought a complete new build with a SSd in hopes of using it with my old hdd. I want to install windows 8 on my SSd. It's cheaper to buy the windows 8 upgrade. Is it possible to upgrade to windows 8 on my SSd from my 7 on my hdd?

yes if it is already activated on your new computer.

But the catch is I bought the system builders windows 7 which is good for 1 install which is on my old HDD. Will my new computer boot with just my old HDD in windows 7 with all new components? Guess I should have been more specific.

You would have to do a repair and re activation, MS have let people activate although it is against the license policy.
