Windows 98 on a new computer?

So my dad has decided he wants to be able to play his old mechwarriors games again, but we need a computer with windows 98. He's willing to spend the money on building one, Im just wondering if there is any issues with new components on an old operating system? Also, he doesn't really want to hook it up to the internet so will there be any issues with updating drivers or will the ones that come on the disks be fine?

P.S. I've built a computer before, just not a legacy type build such as this

I wouldn't imagine the build will run through the process without any compatibility issue, Windows 98 probably don't even have enough generic driver to support the basic stuff, like CPU, GPU, or storage.

I would recommend running virtual machine, if there's Win 98 ISO somewhere.

Win 98 will not work with newer hardware. To run win 98 the best option would be to run it as a virtual machine using virtualbox or VMware player.

Okay, thanks for that info. Does this mean I have to buy both windows 7 and windows 98? I've never used a virtual machine before

A virtual machine is a recreation of an actual PC, just that it exists in software. Most, but not necessarily all of the functionality.
I think your actual problem might be finding a valid, non-cracked, non-previrused, Windows 98 install...lol

But for the virtual machine....The actual hardware runs Windows 7. Inside that would be a VM, running whatever OS.
Currently, I have VM's of Linux, Win XP, and Server 2012. Given enough RAM, all can run at the same time, along with the host OS of Win 8.1 Pro.
