Before you start anything, check out all three computers. To run Windows 7 (32bit) you will need to at least have 1GB of RAM in each machine. It also uses a lot of hard drive space. For breathing room, you will need at least 80Gb on each machine because the Windows install is much bigger than 98,ME and XP. Windows 7 will likely take up 10GB or more of space on your hard drives. Also, even if the machines meet the minimum requirements, it will probably be best for you to run home edition. Professional and Ultimate will require more CPU time and RAM because they have more processes running than the home version.

If you do not know a lot about computers, there is an even more simple way to check. Download this tool from Microsoft and run it. It will tell you what you can and can't run on these systems. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15

If you have any other questions, just ask again!

Hope this helps. :D

Also note, the tool might only work on the XP machine. Because 90% of Windows 98 and ME machines do not meet the minimum anyways. (not enough RAM memory, and slower CPU)

Windows 7 system requirements

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

*

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
*

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
*

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
*

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
