Windows activation confusion

I have a OEM built PC, which is used to be running the pre-installed windows 7 until i upgraded it to windows 10 through the free upgrade scheme. I want to replace my motherboard and CPU, but i have heard that the activation key for windows is stored on the mother board, so i there any way that i can activate windows?

Your OEM key is tied to the original motherboard. If you replace the motherboard technically you need to buy a new license. If you want to move it to a different board that would be upto Microsoft as they technically dont have to let you move it.
