Windows Activation crashes upon opening

While I am using my computer, whether its playing games or watching a movie, occasionally a blue "activate windows" screen will pop up and force me out of whatever I am currently doing. On the screen is the text and a single button which takes me to the "Windows Activation" section of the windows settings. Only it crashes before I even see the screen. If I instead try and go through the menu to try and activate it myself it does the same thing. My computer is not crashing, just that settings window. I googled this and nothing really came up about this. I get no error code or anything like that, it just closes and will pop up another blue screen later. The one thing I found was to type "SLUI" into the taskbar, which showed as something on my computer, but when I click it nothing happens. I am assuming SLUI has to do with windows activation and is crashing just like the other forms of me trying to activate windows.

Does anyone know about this? It is really annoying especially when playing multiplayer games because the blue screen will pop up and stop me from playing.

Well, this is the Windows 10 thread. I don't know where the key itself was purchased as it was given to me. I forgot to mention that I had reset my PC using the "recovery" section as I was having trouble with something, that I can't remember at the moment. I did not have this problem before the reset.

Thare are multiple versions of win 10. Home, Pro, Enterprise and Education. Home and pro also have OEM, Preinstalled OEM and Retail versions. My guess would be you were given a key that has expired. To check the key you'd need to contact Microsoft.

My problem is that I can't get to the place to actually use my key to try and activate windows. Maybe my key has expired but nothing has led me to think that. I reinstalled windows and it wanted me to activate it, which when I try to do, it crashes before I can even type my key in.

If it was me I'd download the latest win 10 version from Microsoft and do a clean reinstall then restore my data from my backup.
