So 2 weeks ago I entirely upgraded my PC. CPU, MOBO etc (except GPU, which I got very recently). After installing my MOBO, I received Activation Issues, with an "Activate Windows" watermark on my screen. I figured it was no big deal, as I knew I had it linked to my account. I contacted support and after a few tries, I finally got my copy back. Yay... During the time until now, I was experiencing long loading times and programs crashing. My PC crashed entirely at one stage and it turned out my Windows was corrupted. So I sent it to get troubleshooting by a friend of mine, and I got it back today. Everything had been fine and was going smooth. I was just in the middle of installing all my old programs and stuff that was on my SSD containing the OS. Then, after ending "GameFirst IV" (an ASUS utility) I get that <mod edit> "Activate Windows" watermark on my screen again. After going through the Activation Troubleshooter to see if the Windows copy is linked to my device, I get "Windows edition on the devices listed below don’t match the Windows edition installed on the device you’re using right now."

Can someone please help me? This is honestly pathetic and I refuse to pay those scumbags $200 for something I already have.

check what licence you have. Seems you bought f.e home edition and installed ultimate/pro. If that's not the case then try going though activation again. I've went though activation 3-4 times as updates managed to mess up my key (from win 7).

welcome to the world of digital downloads ... this is why a hard copy will ALWAYS trump a digital.

i can only sumise that your friend clean installed 'his' version of windows? and obv it doesnt match your version (key wise).
or your particular version of windows 'patch wise' does not match the version before you upgraded? eg windows 10.0.0 isnt the same as 10.1.0 and so it thinks youre trying a dodgy (or vice versa).

Windows. Whenever I call support, I am connected with some foreign that I can't understand. Plus their live chat support for some reason was not an option. They also weren't operating when I posted this and I was very impatient and pissed off. I fixed the problem though. After checking to see the version that was installed, I found that my friend installed the wrong Windows linked to my device *facepalm*
