I have a registered copy of windows 10 home on the computer I am on. I recently assembled a second small system and used the old harddrive from my current system which had been on a shelf..... didn't think about windows registration. The new mini system booted up and ran but after a few I got a message on my main system that windows is not activated. I quickly switched to the other system and pulled the activation key which is now only entered into my main system. However it won't "reactivate"... I've run the activation troubleshooter which says something like "we can't reactivate this computer now" or some such. Is there some way to restore to it's previously activated and and working state or am I going to have to drive my blood pressure up by calling Microsoft support?

Thank you for any info!

What OS was on the old harddrive from the current system?

The big problem I see is one OS licsense per system. You said you "pulled the activation key which is now only entered into my main system", but that key is in use. On your main system. You can't just use that key over again. It's already registered and in use. What you need is another key for the second system. This means buying one or using win10 unactivated.

It's windows 10 home, and it's currently only activated on one system, the same one it was activated on earlier the same day and was working fine for hours. As I indicated I removed they key from the second system.
