Windows all the sudden runs terribly

2 days ago my PC ran perfectly fine, but now when I boot it's either a black screen or programs take forever to start.
Everything stops responding, when I press the windows key for example it will take it 10 minutes to open up the menu.

I don't know what the issue is and it has rendered this PC inoperable.

FX 6300
GTX 960
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Rev 4.
8 GB Ddr3 1866

I don't know what to do, and I've got important files on there so I can't reinstall from USB.

first data take your hard drive out and plug it into another pc or a usb to harddrive enclosure next go about checking what is wrong maybe you didnt tighten the cpu cooler and now the cpu is throttling just go over and check everything if everything seems normal this looks like it could be your hard drive dieing so make sure you are coping that data through another system , its normal for a dieing hard drive to make clicking sounds as well

Did anything change on the system? Driver update perhaps?
What are your CPU temps?
Have you checked the HDD / SSD SMART monitoring data? (* Use something like Crystal Disk Info)
Have you run a CHKDSK /f to scan and fix any hard drive errors?
Have you checked the device manager to see if there are any hardware errors?
As TheYeti suggests above, have you tried Safe Mode (F8 on boot up) to see if that makes a difference?

I was playing Chaos Theory last night, shut the PC off at 10:30 then went to bed, then when I turned it on this morning to start school (8 AM) this is when all this happened.

Everything freezes when I try to open or even navigate through a program (even file explorer).

Right now I'm trying to restart my PC since when I attempt SFC /scannow it tells me I need to restart my PC

Been staring at this spinning white circle for almost an hour now while it does nothing. I will probably need to reinstall windows but I want to get this school pulled off without disassembling my PC, I still have no clue how this issue started.
