Since they installation of the new april update yesterday, my laptop does not boot properly. The update is known tot cause problems without SSD's. My laptop has a sshd and clearly has the same problems.

I am now stuck in the advanced boot menu. All of the recovery options do not seem to work. In the command prompt i am stuck in the X directory.

Any ideas on how to revert back to the old version without loss of personal files?

I will try this later. I am sure there are no recovery Points so it will je a reset if u van find the options. Ideally, i would like to try to uninstallethe update through the command prompt.

I'm not quite sure if it will work for you but here you have command line to uninstall windows updates, you should replace NUMBER with a update number (I've noted for you April updates numbers down below)
wusa /uninstall /kb:NUMBER /quiet /norestart

Update numbers:
April 23: 4093105
April 10.2: 4093112
April 10: 4099572

I have managed to access my c drive. Should i run this on the x, c, of d drive (drivers are in d)?

This command should work mainly in windows command prompt. If its gonna work in command line that you have then you shouldn't need to choose a drive. If give it a try and perform windows repair or recovery.

I started with using this (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5486-uninstall-windows-update-windows-10-a.html) to check for installations, but it returned 'no instances found. So i guess your prompt wont work either.
