Hi,

I have a ASUS MAximus VIII Extreme motherboard. I have installed win 8.1 in an samsung M.2 NVME ssd, However, the computer does not boot from the SSD. I have set the boot priority to the M.2 SSD first and then Windows Boot Manager. My BIOS version is 1202, which is almost the latest. The other 2 newer versions don't have anything to do with M.2 SSD.

Try changing the boot priority to the Windows UEFI boot manager or changing your BIOS settings from UEFI to legacy, or reverse. Enabling or disabling CSM, compatibility support module or compatibililty mode may help too. The very first thing I'd do is make sure you have the most recent BIOS version installed.

Version 0907 added support for Samsung M.2 compatibility, so either that or any newer bios version should help if you have an older bios version.

ASUS Maximus-VIII-Extreme BIOS version 0907
1. Update Intel® ME version to 1168
2. Enhanced memory overclocking range to DDR4 3866(OC)
3. Improved compatibility with Samsung M.2 SSDs

If you had other drives attached to the system, or if the drive that used to have Windows installed on it is still attached, I'd disconnect all drives except the M.2 device and reinstall, as there may be a problem with an older boot partition.

Yes. I have installed win 8.1 and have set the boot priority to the ssd and then the boot priority is for WIndows boot manager. But it never boots from the SSD. I have to go to the UEFI and from there I have to select Windows boot manager under overrirde boot priority to get into windows. If I select the ssd from the Override boot priority I the screen just flickers and I am back on the same page.
