I've recently put my system together and it runs great, except it always boots up on my secondary Asus monitor. Then when I get into Windows, Its back on my main monitor. I have a few questions and I appreciate any help I can get:


1. Is my videocard faulty? Because I can still exchange it on Amazon as 30 days hasn't passed yet since my purchase

2. If there's nothing wrong with my card, how do I fix it? I've looked into the display settings on the Desktop and under Nvidia Experience. My BenQ monitor (Main) shows as being #2, and my Asus monitor (Secondary) shows as being #1. But I set the BenQ as my primary monitor and my system still boots on my secondary monitor.

3. I tried switching the HDMI port on the video card for the Asus monitor and still it doesn't work. Does it matter which HDMI slot I use? My card has 1 DVI (Need it for my 144hz monitor), 2 Display ports, and 2 HDMI ports.


If anyone can help me solve this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Hi there. Here are the answers to your questions:

1. No your video card is not faulty.
2. It happens before windows load so it's not a Windows issue. You have to go into the BIOS and look for a display setting that will be defaulted to "boot on the secondary monitor" (if one existed). Choose your preferred monitor and it should boot up onto your primary monitor.
3. Nice thinking! Did you try using the HDMI on your primary monitor and DVI on your secondary?
Let me know if this solves the issue. If not, there is another complex method of doing so.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not home right now but will try to look into the BIOS for an option to change boot on the monitor. Also I can't switch my BenQ gaming monitor from DVI to HDMI, as the 144hz refresh rate ONLY work on a DVI cable. If anyone else can help us with my issue, I would greatly appreciate it!

I checked in my BIOS and I found nothing that would enable me to switch which monitor to boot from

Crom808 Question: Do you care which screen that the BIOS and motherboard manufacturer logo splash screen appears on? Or do you simply want to change your primary Windows screen? If the former, than physically swapping the monitors is probably your easiest solution. If the latter, then you'll need to get into Windows display settings, identify the monitors, and set the other one as primary.

I've read that the videocard view the HDMI monitor as the primary for booting over the DVI monitor (I need DVI for the 144MHz refresh rate). And if I had a DVI to Displayport converter, then the videocard would view that as my monitor for booting. Question is, does the DVI to Converter mess anything up? Will I get the same 144MHz refresh rate as if I went with the DVI connector?
