Windows boots into a black screen

When I boot my computer up it boots into a black screen with only my mouse cursor, I can move it around but I can't click anything, I've read a few forums and I've tried loading the OS disk and using startup repair but it doesn't find anything wrong, also I've seen a few people with the same problem and they have all just restored it to an earlier point in time, i have tried to do this but it say no restore points have been created on your computers system drive. Please help it would be much appreciated.

Try booting to safe mode http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Dont know what then, but try looking for whats wrong.

I have tried that and I get the same black screen
