Hey guys,

I bought a bigger SSD to replace my old SSD that has my OS on it. Plugged the new SSD in, turned on the computer, and couldn't see the drive. Had to activate it in BIOS.

Went to install Windows 7 on the new SSD (whilst old SSD still had Windows 7 on it), and got the following error message. "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enable in the computer's BIOS menu."

I have an ASRock H87m motherboard, and I went into the BIOS, but couldn't see anything about a disk controller. Any ideas?

Kind regards. and many thanks.

Solution
if the drive is formatted look for it under windows dik management. if it there and it show there a partion on it. then you have to use windows advance mode and delete the partions and start with an empty drive. windows needs to make a system restore pation. if it cant you get that message.
in the bios make sure the intel rst is turned off if it on it make the sata ports go into raid mode. under sata ports make sure there set to achi. in the bios make sure your new ssd shows up. make sure the new ssd is blank if there a partion on it windows set up will fail...have to go into advance mode in the windows install and delete the partion on the drive if there is one. also to be safe on your old data unplug the data cable to the old drive.

Solution
Thank you, that solved it. However, I am now running into another problem. Once I installed Windows 7 on the new SSD (while the Windows 7 is still installed on the other SSD), I am unable to boot to the new Windows 7 installation. It suggested that I run system startup repair, which i did. That didn't fix it. I tried system restore, and that was unable to finish. I remember seeing some message about a device not being accessible, and that if any new hardware had been installed, I should unplug it. The problem is, there is no new hardware. It all the stuff i have been using in the past.

Any ideas?

I went into disk management, and there is neither of those two. On the old one, I can only see a "System Reserved" partition of 100mb. I thought the Windows Installation CD was supposed to cover all of this? How can I fix it?
