Hello, I am trying to install Windows Vista (Don't Judge Me :S) which would make a dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
I currently have 4 HDDs.
1x 1TB
2x 500GB
1x 250GB

My problem is that I am getting an error which says "Windows cannot install required files" Message. I forget the error code, but I can get it if you need it. On Copy Files, it would go to 1% then shoot up to 100%. That's when the error would appear.

I have attempted to install Windows Vista on all but the 1 TB and kept on getting the error. I am going to try and partition the 1 TB and install it on there.

KEEP IN MIND

I have in the past, converted all but the 1 TB into Dynamic Disks, but have convert BACK to Basic Disks. I'm not sure once you conert a disk to Dynamic, it never really goes back to "Basic" but what do I know! :pt1cable:

I have tried to install on IDE and ACHI modes.

Thanks.

Wait, I just thought of something.... Vista NEEDS to be installed BEFORE Windows 7 in order to have your dual boot... because Windows 7 had a newer Boot Loader/manager thingy...

Also, when you do get everything sorted out and installed correctly... You could do what I've done in the past with Dual Boots... have the Documents and Photos and Videos and Music folders... from both O/S pointing to the same locations... so any changes from one side will be seen when you load up the other O/S
From what I read... the O/S can't install onto a Dynamic Disk..

However, every time I encountered the problem with Windows not being able to install onto a drive... it always turned out to be a problem with the partition itself. All I had to do was DELETE all the partitions on the disk/drive... then create a new one and do a quick format... then Windows installed without any problems.

It may be caused due to the boot option you choose, try to change boot option to IDE instead of AHCI.
If your problem still persist then, first take backup of your all data, then delete all drives, then reinstall the Windows again.

Interesting. I thought Windows Vista and 7 had the same boot loader and Windows XP was the different one. I'm getting an ssd soon, so I could reinstall Windows then. Or if I take the Windows 7 (1TB HDD) out and then install, shouldn't that work? Since it won't "know" Windows is installed?

This method actually worked, but Windows 7 wouldn't boot properly. Windload.exe at startup wasn't verified or something. It was a simple fix with the repair settings. Thanks for the help guys.
