I recently bout the alienware monitor aw2518hf a 240 hz monitor and when I hooked it up to my laptop with hdmi the windows setting will not let me go past 120 hz. I have a dell inspirion 5577 with a i7-7700hq and a 1050.

Your laptop must have an hdmi 2 port (or newer), otherwise it will not support refresh rates higher than 120 hz. Its not your gpu/apu, its the port. If you have display port it will more than likely work with your 240 hz monitor.

Is there any laptops that have display port and should i look for a new laptop with hdmi because the newest ones will have hdmi 2 or higher. Also what does hdmi 2 support.
