The Windows captions were working fine, then they weren't. When I select win-ctl-L enter, I get the icon in the taskbar tray but it won't open the captions window on the screen. Does anyone know how to repair or replace or fix this issue? Thanks.

Try disabling it, then enabling it as below and see if the captions window works.

  1. Left-click the Start button and type Task Manager in the search box.
  2. Click on Open and select the Processes or Details tab.
  3. Next, choose Live Captions or Livecaptions.exe and click on End task at the top of the Window.
It should be noted that you can only use this method when you want to disable the Live Captions feature in Windows 11.

And finally, Microsoft has a dedicated Windows + Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut that you can use to enable the feature.
