Can anyone suggest me a free alternative to Windows Defender which includes real time protection from infections and a little bit of internet security too. Not too many features is required. Thank you.

Been using Kaspersky Security Cloud Free and am thoroughly satisfied with it. There is no better free antivirus/antimalware solution on the internet. Recommend it 100 percent.

Part of the reason why I am so impressed with KSC is that along with detecting every malware I have thrown at it, it does not flag the legitimate <things that we do not speak of here> that I have on my computer (while flagging the malware-ridden files). Gotta love those Ruskies!

What are your actual reasons for not using defender? I’ve been using it for years now with absolutely zero issues and no infections

I combine that with Malwarebytes

kapersky is CRAPWARE

Kaspersky has always been stellar when it comes to protection. So, I cannot see how you could call a product crapware when it does it's job to perfection.

Furthermore, the accusations hurled by the US Govt hold absolutely no water. They have provided zero proof that Kaspersky is in cahoots with the Russian Govt and let's examine the facts here:

  1. NSA employee takes classified material home for convenience.
  2. NSA employee uses a pirated version of MS Office.
  3. Downloads a keygen for it.
  4. Keygen contains malware (backdoor)
  5. AV won't let the keygen run ('coz it's malware, duh), so NSA employee turns AV off.
  6. Every Tom, Dick and Harriet enters NSA employee's computer through the backdoor and steals classified stuff from it.
  7. NSA employee turns AV back on, it finds and removes the malware, sees new variants of NSA malware, uploads them to Kaspersky.
  8. Kaspersky sees that they inadvertently got classified material and orders its destruction.
Well, it should be obvious by now. Clearly, it's Russia's and Kaspersky's fault. Ban them. They are the scourge of the earth for detecting malware on a retarded incompetent NSA employee's personal computer.
