I have been getting error messages whilst the computer is running as above.. however I see that I also get the same error when starting windows XP Pro. The computer tries to wrie data to both Harddrives and all 4 patritions before giving up, and allows windows to run.

Yesterday i got a bit of a fright when opening one of my HD partitions and the menu was empty.. as if ALL data was missing. On a reboot all was aok.. but I think I need to check this. It cannot be a disk error as I have 2 hard disks.. one is SATA the other is a 1TB USB drive.
I tried changing the settings to disable write caching but it made no difference.
Any ideas please?

Hmmm.. not sure why.. but the problem has disappeared ...I suspect it was a poor connection to the USB drive or my SATA drive as I gave all the cables a good jiggle..
Thanks for the assistance tho.. :)
