Hi, while I was playing Dota 2 a pop up message 'Windows detected a harddisk problem' came up and had me worried. Intel rapid technology also detected some anomalies everytime I opened my PC.
My hard disk is a Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142

I bought it 2013, so I can't replace it anymore which is sad.
Here are the things I did:
-Scanned for errors using Windows error checking - no error found
-chkdsk, but it only scans C:\ (My problematic hard drive is D:\) I still get windows detected a hard disk problem every now and then after scanning and reboot.
-chkdsk /f - I restarted my computer and got stuck scanning and repairing at 13%. I had no choice but to skip it.
-Downloaded 3rd party programs to check and desperately repair bad my harddrive.

Whats strange is windows does not detect any problems with my HDD but 3rd party programs does.
My specs are
Intel i3 4130
8GB Ram
Palit 750ti
AOC 22 E2250Swdn
Gigabyte H81MDS2
Seagate ST3160215AS
Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142
600watt power supply

Hi there bayonet14,

Unfortunately, it seems that there are many bad sectors on the drive. It could fail at any time. This is why, you really need to back up the data stored on it.
The thing is that you can't really fix that. Bad sectors would eventually continue to appear.
My suggestion would be to get another drive. You can continue using this one as well. Yet, you need to make sure that all the data stored on it is backed up.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,

Im sorry to inform you but your harddrive is dead... Windows tool for hdd monitoring is basicaly cr*p. I personally had atleast 4 different machines with disk failures on different windows (XP, 7, Server 2008, SMS 2011, 8.1) None of these OS`s warned me about hdd problem. I suggest you to follow the instructions from HD sentinel and backup all your data from that disk. This health status will often give you notable drop in performance of the drive - slow copy speeds, damaged files, buzzing noise etc

Your hard drive is failing. Hopefully, given that hard drives can fail very quickly at any time, you already have a proper backup plan, but if you don't, back up your data before it's too late. It's time for a new hard drive.

The thing is that mechanical drives just fail. This could happen in a week while, on the other hand, a hard drive could last for 10 years.
Different users would suggest different brands based on their experience, so you can't really expect a correct answer to that question. 😀

In case you decide to go with WD, you can check WD Black. It is a premium, performance oriented product with 5 years of limited warranty. Also, it features dual core processor for better multitasking.

Technically all drives fail... even ssd`s have limited life. We tend to use WD alot mostly for camera footage storage
I would say you can expand your hdd life if you keep your computer clean, do regular disk cleanups and defragment when needed
